  1. It's cool that you're starting this new blog and learning to be so frugal. I am frugal by nature and buy 99% on sale or clearance. I shop the ads, use store coupons and occasionally use manufacturer coupons when I run into them. I would love to do even more, but here's my problem: it seems like it takes too much time! Even now, I just wasted a half-hour perusing some of the blogs that linked off of the one you linked to. I saw tons of exciting stuff, but I was overwhelmed and realized that it would take me quite a bit of time to print this coupon off here, sign up for that promo there, make a list for this store, run to that store for one item, etc. Additionally, as much of a cheapskate as I am, I think I would feel weird and like I was taking advantage of the store if I went through the checkout and paid nothing or almost nothing. Does that make any sense? How do you feel about it and have you found that you spend a lot of time working on your couponing?

  2. hi sara! like you, i got "sucked in" when i first started reading couponing blogs. there are SO many!!! i've realized that it's best to look at the local ones, though...since they have the most relevant information.

you totally shouldn't feel bad if you walked out paying nothing or close to it, because the stores get reimbursed by the manufacturers for their coupons...so, they're not losing anything, and you're gaining! it's the best. oh, and it's a really amazing feeling to walk out of a store with a receipt for $0 and a bunch of groceries in your bag :o]

i've started to develop a strategy with couponing - i try to not get bogged down with all the amazing deals, and i just focus on the things we actually would need or use. i mean, i could go buy 11 shick razors and some sambucol, because that'd be a $27 moneymaker this week...but, i'm just not at that point yet. my goal is to stockpile the things we use frequently and never pay full price for them again.

to keep things low maintenance and simple, we get a paper every sunday - i check the coupons to see if i'd want multiples of anything, and we buy accordingly. for example, when they had an herbal essences coupon, we bought 6 papers...and now i have bottles of shampoo and conditioner that cost me $1.80 when their regular price is $3.24. it's worth it to me to clip a couple coupons for that kind of savings!

the coupons.com site resets every month, so i just go check out what they have and what i might want and print some of them.

so, to summarize...yes, i've spent some serious hours perusing blogs, cutting coupons, and reading through flyers...BUT i'm starting to see the monetary benefits...and they're fabulous!

and since i'm a total newbie, i won't post any deals that aren't super easy to replicate...because i'm not going to do them if they take too long! hope you join me on this couponing adventure!
